“Football is not for sale” – UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin reacts to Super League court ruling (Video)

The European Court of Justice has announced its ruling that FIFA and UEFA contravened European law when they prevented the formation of the so-called European Super League.

And while A22 Sports, the organization formed to aid the creation of the breakaway competition, has already launched a proposal of its format, and Real Madrid and Barcelona see the ruling as a victory over those who oppose the Super League, a number of top clubs across Europe have already come out to state their firm decision not to participate in the project, and reiterate their commitment to domestic and UEFA competitions.

Here s what UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin had to say on the subject.

Rooney to Derby: The ex-Man United captain´s top club goals

Wayne Rooney s illustrious career will continue back in England when he leaves DC United and joins Derby County in a player-coach capacity in January.

Rooney has been a key man for DC in just over a year in MLS so far, but news of a return home with Derby in the Championship quickly developed before the move was announced on Tuesday.

The 33-year-old burst onto the scene as a teenager with boyhood club Everton before going on to become Manchester United s all-time leading scorer, managing 253 goals in 559 appearances in all competitions.

His 13-year stay at United which included winning the Premier League, Champions League and both domestic cups ended in 2017 when he returned to Goodison Park, giving him the opportunity to play again for the team where it all be…

Breakthrough Liverpool campaign ´a dream come true´ for Alexander-Arnold

Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold says he has been living the dream this season and is keen to nail down a Champions League final starting spot.

The 19-year-old had played only 12 first-team matches prior to this campaign, but has established himself as a key man for Jurgen Klopp, particularly in Europe.

Alexander-Arnold, who collected Liverpool s Young Player of the Season award this week, has made 11 appearances and scored twice in the Champions League including qualifiers and now hopes to start against Real Madrid in the final in Kiev on May 26, which is more likely following Joe Gomez s ankle injury.

[This is] a dream come true, he told Liverpool s official website. There s something special about the Champions League and it s always been a dream to …

Bayern Munich 1 Liverpool 3 (1-3 agg): Mane and Van Dijk seal quarter-final spot

Sadio Mane s brace inspired Liverpool to a convincing 3-1 win at Bayern Munich and a place in the Champions League quarter-finals.

The Senegal forward s excellent 26th-minute opener gave Jurgen Klopp s side a priceless away goal but, in a similar vein to the goalless first leg at Anfield, the action was fitful and error-strewn for the most part.

Bayern were level at the break thanks to Joel Matip s own goal but Niko Kovac s side were never able to mount a sustained victory push.

A typically dominant Virgil van Dijk powered in to leave a forlorn Bayern with a mountain to climb and Mane administered the knockout blow six minutes from time.

GOAL! THIS GUY CAN T STOP SCORING! Beautiful Salah assist and a clinical Mane finish.

No room for Juve complacency as Pirlo targets final ´at all costs´

Andrea Pirlo will work to make sure Juventus do not think the job is already done ahead of their Coppa Italia semi-final second leg against Inter, a tie he says they must negotiate at all costs .

The Bianconeri returned to Turin with a 2-1 lead after Cristiano Ronaldo s brace at San Siro last week turned the first leg on its head following Lautaro Martinez s opener.

Juve are going for a 10th successive Serie A title this season, but the Coppa has not treated Italy s dominant club quite so well of late.

They lost last season s final under Maurizio Sarri and have won the competition just four times in 26 years, those triumphs coming in four straight campaigns from 2014-15.

Pirlo is making no secret of his desire to deliver success and wants Juve to maintain…

Premier League trio chasing Dries Mertens

It looks like Napoli are going to lose one of their main stars this summer. Dries Mertens is, according to reports, unlikely to sign a new deal at Napoli before his contract ends. His current deal with the club is set to end on 30 June or, in fact, a bit later, due to this whole chaos created by the coronavirus that has stopped football and he could be leaving as a free agent.

This could be really good news for clubs interested in the Belgian, especially those in the Premier League. According to the Gazzetta dello Sport, there are after all three Premier League clubs interested in his services. Their reports suggests that Mertens entourage could enter into talks with Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea.

The Belgium international, now 32, joined Napoli in 2013 and has…

Bitesize Prediction: Huesca vs Burgos – 07/09/24

Market: Huesca win

Odds: 5/4 @

Looking to extend on their 100% start, Huesca will welcome Burgos to the Estadio El Alcoraz on Saturday evening.

Starting with the hosts, while Huesca might have only just about dragged themselves over the finishing line last season as they managed to keep hold of their Segunda status, Antonio Hidalgo’s men have made a string of improvements since returning from the summer interval. Flying out of the traps since opening up the 2024/25 campaign, the Aragon-based outfit have continued to receive a string of plaudits from across Spain’s second-tier. Opening proceedings with a rugged 1-0 victory away at Elche on August 18th, the former Sevilla coach finds the mood around the Estadio El Alcoraz at a red-hot high. Last seen putting i…

Aubameyang and Arsenal prove Wembley specialists again in fickle form guide

The main thing to remember after the full-time whistle sounds at the end of the Community Shield is that no one knows anything.

As a form guide, English football s traditional season curtain-raiser is often completely lousy – just in case there was any danger of unbridled optimism at Arsenal following their 1-1 draw against Liverpool and subsequent penalty shoot-out triumph.

Who could forget Manchester United sweeping aside Wigan Athletic in 2013 to promise prolonged glory under continuity candidate David Moyes?

Or even last season s meeting between Liverpool and Manchester City, a knife-edge tussle concluding in a penalty shoot-out that indicated there was nothing between the top two teams in the country.

Liverpool were back at Wembley on Sunday, havin…

Milan 4-2 Torino (after extra time): Calhanoglu brings Rossoneri back from the brink

Hakan Calhanoglu scored a double off the bench to take Milan from the brink of Coppa Italia elimination and into the semi-finals with a thrilling 4-2 victory after extra time against Torino.

Milan took the lead when Giacomo Bonaventura converted in the 12th minute, but a brace from defender Bremer looked set to be enough to send Torino into the semi-finals for the first time since 1993-94.

However, Calhanoglu replaced Rade Krunic in the 82nd minute and his stoppage-time strike from the edge of the box forced an additional half an hour.

A stunning drive from the same player just 29 seconds into the second half of extra time was followed two minutes later by Zlatan Ibrahimovic s second goal since returning to the club, sending the Rossoneri through to face Juventus…

Emerson Palmieri to reject Galatasaray advances to stay at West Ham

According to Football Insider, West Ham are preparing for a late attempt from Galatasaray to sign Emerson Palmieri.

The Turkish Super Lig club tried first to land Aston Villa s Lucas Digne to strengthen their left defensive flank but failed, and they ve therefore turned their attention to Emerson, contracted to the London side until 2026. They re expected to test the Hammers resolve before the transfer window in Turkey closes on September 13th, but as reported by Fabrizio Romano, the 30-year-old Italy international is set to reject their advances in order to remain at his current club, where he s very happy at the moment.

Emerson was a part of Julen Lopetegui s starting XI in all three Premier League games so far this season. He joined West Ham from Chelsea two years ag…
